Description
I have had requests for a Kephart knife for those that wanted something from history. Horace Kephart is considered the God Father of wood craft and I recommend looking him up. He has a mountain named after him. (Mount Kephart in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park). This is my version of a Kephart knife.
Kephart – Traditional American Woods Knife.
The Kephart is a faithful expression of a classic American woods knife, inspired by the simple, efficient tools carried by early woodsmen, trappers, and explorers. Its design follows the principle that a knife should be useful above all else — nothing added that does not serve a purpose.
This knife is hand-forged in small batches, using time-tested methods that respect the original spirit of the Kephart pattern. It is not a modern reinterpretation, but a return to tradition.
A Knife Meant for the Woods
The straight spine and gentle belly provide excellent control for everyday camp work:
-
Food preparation
-
Feather sticks and kindling
- Spine can be used to spark a ferro rod to create fire
-
Light carving and notching
-
General camp and trail tasks
The narrow profile and neutral balance make the Kephart comfortable to use for long periods without fatigue — as the original design intended.
Honest Materials, Honest Craft
Each Kephart knife is forged, ground, and finished by hand. The blade is heat-treated for dependable edge holding and toughness, producing a knife that sharpens easily and performs reliably in the field.
The handle is shaped in the traditional manner to sit naturally in the hand, offering security without aggressive contours. This allows the knife to work equally well in multiple grips, whether at camp or on the trail.

I ordered not one but two of these one as a gift that being said I think Frank has executed the profile of this classic nessmuk trio design wonderfully its a fine homage to origin bushcraft but its also a user through and through this knife wants to process meat. It has a substantially thick spine that tapers out a nice bellied edge a proper butcher. The scales are hardwood with what look like liners and well secured pins rock solid no play full tang it’s size I’d think extends well to precision tasks such as skinning. At the current price point this blade is a serious competitor to others in category I own many upon handling this when it arrived I knew it was going to supercede others accompanying me in the woods this season it appears ready for a lifetime of usage every outdoorsman should own a kephart derivative of some type this would even be a perfect first knife for a young person interested in Bush craft Buy with confidence.

You can’t go wrong when ordering this knife. I own a few knives from Frank and they all are top quality. Just all around great knives.

The blade on this knife is amazing. It really exceeds my expectations. The sheath is very nice and fits the knife perfectly. As I was checking this kephart out today, I found myself wishing the handle was about 1/2″ longer and a little thicker. My hand is about 4″ wide, and the handle of this knife is a good bit less than 4″ long. Overall, I love this knife a lot, even if my hands are too big.

Christopher, thanks for the feedback. I will look into the handle size.
