Description

Introducing the Next-Generation Khukuri: Tradition Forged with Modern Precision.  Designed by Alan Kay.

The newly designed Khukuri Knife brings a bold evolution to an iconic silhouette. Honoring centuries of Nepalese craftsmanship, this modern khukuri combines the unmistakable forward-curved blade with improved materials and refined ergonomics for great performance in the field.

Engineered for power and control, the blade features a high-performance steel with a full-tang construction, delivering exceptional strength, edge retention, and cutting authority. The updated handle geometry offers a secure, natural grip—even under demanding conditions—while maintaining the classic balance that makes the khukuri both a tool and a weapon of legend.

Whether for outdoor survival, bushcraft, collection, or professional use, this redesigned khukuri stands as a fusion of heritage and innovation—built to cut harder, last longer, and honor the proud legacy behind its form.

The sheath is traditional with metal tip added.   This Khukuri comes with a finger choil for choking up on the blade.  it DOES NOT come with the traditional side knives.  Alan Kay uses this blade on many of his outings.

The knife weight varies slightly (+/- a couple of grams) as these are hand forged.  This is a good knife for General Purpose camp use and can be used for self defense.  Price includes shipping inside the USA.

I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ve only heard good things about the craftsmanship of franks knives but I hadn’t ordered one yet until I saw the Alan Kay design. I couldn’t pass it up and WOW!!! IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!! The sheath has good retention. The blade is surprisingly light!!! A HIGH SPEED LOW DRAG do it all blade!!! To say I’m happy with my purchase is an understatement. Take my money!!! Ha

I received my expedition khukuri yesterday and tried it out today. I can’t yet speak to the edge holding ability or long term durability, but the edge geometry is excellent. I really like how this design is not as thick behind the edge as the K Tac from Condor or many other versions. I think this hits a great balance of being thin enough to slice, light enough to carry, and stout enough for heavy use. It came with a hair shaving edge along the entire cutting edge.

After using it today I stropped it 3x per side before oiling it and the edge shaved hair as good as ever. In testing I did some machete work on light grass, heavy weeds, and light brush. It did very well, at least as good as my Becker or Cold Steel kukris and much better than the Tops or Condor. That’s exceptional for a tool with this thick of a blade and a convex edge. Cutting brush and saplings to the size of my wrist it excelled also. Any material I’d likely need to clear undergrowth or build things around camp this will cut well. I mostly carry kukri’s spring through fall and go to an axe or hawk through winter for driving stakes in frozen ground and more firewood prep. I need a kukri to handle the machete work, not just hatchet jobs and this one does. With the choil it did feather sticks and notches very well for a large blade also, better than any of my others, as I can get closer to the cutting edge.

I need to use it more, but as of now this is likely going to be my favorite kukuri knife, and the one I use most going forward. Alan Kay has long had my respect, and I think his experience has designed my ideal khukuri. Micarta handles and a full tang for durability, plus a blade that fits my use perfectly. Great blade.
