Description
Seax Knife – Traditional Anglo-Saxon Working Blade
Bringing a SEAX knife per multiple requests. Made to be more traditional style. This style of knife has a long history of use. The Seax is a single-edged knife that originated among Germanic Saxons during the 4th to 6th century and remained in use through the Viking era to the 11th Century . The name “seax” itself comes from the Old English word for “knife”. It was a versatile tool used for daily tasks like hunting and butchering, but also as a weapon in combat.
The knife weight varies slightly (+/- a couple of grams) as these are hand forged. This is a good knife for General Purpose camp use and can be used for self defense. Price includes shipping inside the USA.
The Seax is one of the earliest and most practical knife forms in European history. Carried by Anglo-Saxon and Norse peoples, it served as an everyday tool for work, travel, and survival. This Seax knife stays true to that tradition—simple, purposeful, and built for real use.
Hand-forged in small batches, each Seax reflects the straightforward craftsmanship that defined early blades. It is not decorative or modernized, but a working knife in the spirit of its origins.
A Blade with Ancient Purpose
The straight spine and broken-back profile provide excellent control and cutting efficiency, making the Seax well suited for:
-
Camp and field tasks
-
Food preparation
-
Light wood work and carving
-
General utility and outdoor use
The long cutting edge and strong point allow both powerful cuts and precise work close to the edge.
Traditional Craftsmanship
Each Seax knife is forged, ground, and finished by hand using time-tested methods. The blade is heat-treated for toughness and reliable edge retention, producing a working edge that sharpens easily and performs consistently.
The handle is shaped for a secure, comfortable grip without excess contouring, allowing the knife to be used naturally in multiple grips—just as the original Seax was intended.

Butch Montoya –
I was lucky enough to win one of these knives in a FaceBook contest that Frank runs monthly (like the “Knives By Hand” Facebook page to get notification for his monthly “giveaways”!)
But it wasn’t until I received the blade that I truly appreciated it’s beauty.
The attention to detail – the ornate carving on the blade, bolsters and handle – make this knife a sheer work of art.
Beauty and functionality – a common theme is all the hand forged blades created by Frank.
