BART MOORE BOWIE KNIFE: The original knife was given to the Great Great Grandfather of Bart Moore, Sheriff James Moore to retire a debt of $5. It has been handed down through that family, and was on display at the Historical Arkansas Museum in Little Rock. The original knife has been tested, and dates back to the 1830s and is believed to have been made by James Black of Washington Arkansas and has an 8 1/2 inch blade . THIS KNIFE IS A RECREATION OF THAT KNIFE. It includes the Blade Stop on the top of the spine (contact Frank if you require an explanation of the use of the blade stop during fighting).

The Moore Bowie pattern traces back to one of the most legendary blades in American frontier history. According to family tradition, the original 8.5-inch Damascus blade was recovered from a funeral pyre at the Alamo by a Mexican soldier and later used to settle a blood debt in Texas. This is KBH’s hand-forged reproduction of that blade, built to the same proportions and fighting geometry.
TACTICAL FEATURES:
Curved Catch Guard – The crossguard curves inward to trap an opponent’s blade on contact. It protects your hand from sliding forward on a thrust and gives you a split-second bind advantage in close quarters.
Spine Blade Stop – A notched cutout on the top spine designed to catch and lock an incoming blade. Historical fighting styles used this to bind an opponent’s weapon, control the fight, and create openings. Also functions as a thumb rest for added leverage on precision thrusts.
Choil Cutout – A matching cutout below the blade near the guard. A second capture point that gives you blade-trapping options from both the spine and edge side.
Clip Point with False Edge – The sharpened clip creates a double-threat tip: thrust forward or backcut on the return. The deep belly below delivers devastating draw cuts and chops.
Hammer Pommel – A custom-shaped striking pommel for non-lethal close-quarters options or glass/material breaching. This is not a flat butt cap. It’s a purpose-forged impact tool.
THE BUILD:
At 22.5 ounces with a 1/4″ spine, this is a short sword disguised as a knife. Heavy enough to chop through resistance, balanced enough to transition between guard positions. Full tang. 5160 leaf spring steel, coal forged by Nepali master smiths.
