JESSE ROBINSON BOWIE KNIFE: This big brass-back knife was given as a gift to Jesse Robinson from Jim Bowie. The Original was on display at the Bob Bullock Museum in Austin, but removed and sold to Phil Collins who in 2014 donated it to the Alamo Museum in San Antonio.  Jesse Robinson (who later Became a Texas Ranger), and Jim Bowie were friends.  They fought together at the Battle of Concepción and the Siege of Béxar (1835).   Jesse Robinson knife ended up in a museum.

The Jesse Robinson Bowie Recreation was born out of an unofficial challenge with my apprentice.  He was working on a Bowie for a customer that wanted a Brass backed spine.    I did some research and decided on the Jesse Robinson Bowie to be replicated.   The spine is epoxied and pinned with several brass pins on the spine  to ensure that it would be secure.  Example of testing can be see in the video below.  Second Video is of the sheath

This will include a sheath made by Nikki out of Colorado.

I was lucky enough to get in on the first run of this classic blade. When you first look at it – one can’t help but admire the sheer beauty of this classically designed Bowie knife, but it is not until you actually feel it in hand that you get a full appreciation for why it is a classic.

Beautiful and functional – what more could one ask for in a knife.

Received my Jesse Robinson Bowie a couple of days ago my second purchase from Mr. Frank Gonzalez and like always he didn’t disappoint this historic Bowie is a beast of a knife and solid as a rock he does outstanding work and I’m proud to own any piece of his work and looking forward to purchasing more in the near future like the Crome Bowie.” Thank you Mr. Gonzalez keep up great work that you do sir”

Well what can I say about the Jesse Robinson Bowie? This thing is an absolute tank of a knife with beautiful finishing treatment. The knife shipped quickly and was well packaged with secure wrapping and thick foam inserts protecting the ends. The sheath was of robust construction as well: glued, stitched, and rivetted. I don’t see it succumbing to fatigue in my lifetime. Drawing out the blade reveals a high mirror polish and a graceful sweeping edge to a point aligned with the center of the handle. The brass bolster on the spine is tight and the rivets flush fitted. The convex edge grind adds to the clean lines and will be highly effective as a chopper and should hold up well over time. My example did have a nick with burr in the middle of the blade (I expect from testing). A little time on a honing stone will resolve this but did prevent me from rating a full 5 stars on this otherwise impressive piece.
